Founders Day 2026 Is Going Walking-Only — Here's What That Actually Means

The 37th Annual Founders Day Festival returns to downtown Dripping Springs on April 24–26, 2026 — and this year, the parade looks a little different.

The city announced that the 2026 parade will be fully foot-powered. No motorized floats. Every entry — school groups, civic organizations, local businesses, community clubs — will be walking through downtown.

It's a shift from the traditional format, and it's one that makes a lot of sense for where Dripping Springs is right now.

Why the Change Works

Founders Day's parade route runs through the heart of downtown, and downtown Dripping Springs has changed a lot in recent years. More businesses on Mercer Street. More foot traffic year-round. More people discovering what makes this town worth celebrating in the first place.

A walking-only parade changes the experience in a few meaningful ways:

It's more interactive. Without a motorized float acting as a barrier, parade entries can actually engage with the crowd — hand things out, stop for a quick conversation, make eye contact. It's a parade, not a production.

It's more intimate. The scale feels human-sized. You're not watching something roll by — you're part of the street.

It's more accessible. No exhaust fumes, lower noise levels, easier for families with small children or anyone who's sensory-sensitive.

Some longtime attendees may miss the big floats. But for a festival that's fundamentally about community, having people walk through their own streets feels like a return to what Founders Day was always about.

Want to Be in the Parade?

Float applications — for walking entries — are open now. If your organization, business, or group wants to march, get your application in early.

The Founders Day Committee meets later this month for planning updates if you want to get more involved. Check cityofdrippingsprings.com for details.

The Full Festival Picture

Founders Day is a three-day event, and the parade is just one part of it. The festival typically includes:

  • Live music across multiple stages
  • Local food vendors and artisan booths
  • Family-friendly activities
  • A true downtown block-party atmosphere

For residents who've been coming for years, it's an annual ritual. For newcomers, it's the best single introduction to what Dripping Springs is actually like as a community.
