Target Is Coming to Dripping Springs — Here's Everything We Know

Dripping Springs is getting a Target.

After years of rumors and wishful thinking, it's official: the Minneapolis-based retail giant has purchased land at 13550 West US 290 and confirmed plans to build its first-ever Dripping Springs location. For a town that's been growing fast but still sending residents to Austin or Kyle for big-box shopping, this is a big deal.

What We Know So Far

Target completed the purchase of more than 10 acres along US 290 on January 12, 2026, according to Hays County deed records. The land was acquired from a shell company linked to Property Commerce, a Houston-based commercial developer.

The planned store is large — roughly 145,000 square feet, which puts it in line with a standard full-size Target. That's not a small-format or express store; it's the real thing.

A Target spokesperson confirmed the news to the San Antonio Express-News: "We're excited to bring an easy, affordable and convenient shopping experience to new guests in the Dripping Springs community."

More Than Just a Target

The store won't be arriving alone. According to marketing materials from Property Commerce, Target is set to anchor a larger development called "The Village at Dripping Springs."

The plans include:

  • Two additional commercial buildings totaling roughly 19,300 square feet — one connected to the Target itself, another in the parking lot area
  • Four more lots available for additional retail or restaurant tenants

In other words, this could become the kind of mixed-use retail hub the area has been missing — a real destination instead of a pit stop.

The site sits near the existing CVS and Dripping Springs Racquet Club on the west side of town, well-positioned to serve residents of Headwaters, Belterra, Caliterra, and the growing subdivisions coming in from the west.

Why It Matters

For a community of this size, a Target arrival isn't just a shopping convenience — it's a signal.

Dripping Springs has spent the last decade becoming one of the fastest-growing towns in Central Texas. But retail options haven't kept pace. Right now, a full grocery run or a home goods haul means a 20-to-30-minute drive toward Austin. That changes the math for a lot of families deciding where to put down roots.

Beyond daily convenience, a development this size also signals that national retailers see long-term staying power here. Target doesn't open 145,000-square-foot stores in places they're not confident about.

For local businesses on Mercer Street and nearby, the effects will be worth watching. More foot traffic on the 290 corridor could lift all boats — or it could shift some spending patterns. Either way, it changes the competitive landscape in ways that are worth paying attention to.

What We Still Don't Know

Target has not announced a construction timeline or an estimated opening date. The property is purchased, the plans are real, but "coming soon" is still the operative phrase.

Expect more details to emerge as permits are filed with the city. When ground breaks, you'll know.

The Bottom Line

Dripping Springs is growing up — and its retail scene is finally starting to catch up. A full-size Target anchoring a new shopping center on West 290 is the kind of infrastructure milestone that tends to attract more development in its wake.

Stay tuned. The Village at Dripping Springs is just getting started.
